Strategic Assessment
Our Business Intelligence (BI) Strategic Assessment is a flat fee engagement that provides a series of facilitated
sessions, background information, methodology and a process which will help you plan a BI implementation that addresses your organization's
specific needs.
Among the most common reasons for the failure of business intelligence
and data warehousing projects is the lack of proper review, preparation and planning.
Since 1996 our senior consultants have been engaged in a wide variety of projects
where assessment, planning and preparation is critical to success. There is no question
that if you want effective positive impact from your business intelligence investment
in the shortest time and with the least overall cost then planning is critical.
For these reasons we have established this formal offering and have helped a number of
customers with our unique approach to BI assessment and consultation.
We can help. Our senior consulting team has developed a ten-step plan for helping
you understand, organize, plan and implement your BI solution.
Our plan is based on years
of experience designing and implementing BI solutions for organizations ranging
from small businesses to the Fortune 500. Our process begins with critical definitions of business goals where senior management helps
determine the most meaningful objectives and related measures through our facilitated
sessions.
We deliver a comprehensive report that includes up to 50 pages
of documentation, models, diagrams, plans and recommendations on how you should
organize, plan and implement your business intelligence system. The report includes
the following:
- Business Objectives - Listing and Narrative
- Business Encyclopedia (definitions, measures, dimensions)
- High Level BusinessActivity Flow (based on IDEF standard)
- System of Record Analysis Conceptual Data
- Model for Target (based on IE standard)
- Infrastructure Review & Implementation Plan

What do you need? - Business Goals
Results are never an accident. If you don't clearly define your objectives and then
determine the related measures, dimensions, data lists, metrics and other supporting
definitions you won't realize results. Our facilitated sessions walk your management
team through this process and include a standardized business process analysis and
activity flow. It also provides a Business Encyclopedia that documents your most
important business metrics and operational definitions.
Where is your data? - Conceptual Data Model & System of Record
Once you know the audience, objectives and supporting metrics that will have the
greatest impact on success, you must define how data will be derived and organized.
We will help you create a standards-based conceptual data model to represent how
your business measurements, dimensions and other information will be organized at a
high level. Next we explore your operational systems and help you define the systems
of record for your most critical information. Finally, we work with your vendors
and IT team to determine how disparate operational systems will be related to each
other.
How will you make it work? - Implementation
With objectives and data defined it is still possible to have a failure with the
implementation of your business intelligence system. A variety of concerns must
be carefully reviewed and considered. Our consultants will help you understand the
best information delivery method for the primary groups within your user community.
This will be combined with a review of your IT infrastructure at a high level to
assure such issues as bandwidth consumption, BI licensing optimization and fault
tolerance are addressed. Finally, a high level implementation plan with an estimate
of the needed time and skills for successful implementation is created and added
to the consultant's report. |
