Generic ANSI SQL Training. Result Data has developed and evolved generic ANSI SQL
training classes to help IT professionals quickly learn the basics of the SQL language. These classes were created
without a specific database vendor in mind and have provided professionals who work with MS-SQL, Oracle, DB2 and other
database systems with the foundation for using SQL.
This one day class covers the most important database concepts and introduces the student to the
ANSI SQL language. It includes basic concepts about databases and conceptual information about how client/server
database systems work. It also provides relevant information about how software applications connect to and use
databases. The class spends a majority of time on the SQL language including some information about its history. The
student obtains a solid foundation in SQL fundamentals and syntax by reviewing and then writing SQL statements to
accomplish many common tasks such as retrieving, filtering, calculating, summarizing, creating, updating and deleting data.
This one day class covers many of the more advanced aspects of SQL. It begins with a brief review of
basic SQL syntax and then rapidly moves into more complex topics such as sub-queries, stored procedures, views and data
definition language. It also addresses issues concerning database security, converting data types and transaction
control. Special attention is given to the concept and practice of referential integrity. Students participate in
hands-on activities involving the creation and use of table relationships. Significant attention is given to the
concept, creation, and use of stored procedures to help students understand how these database objects can solve certain
problems.
This one day workshop provides a solid understanding and experience in using advanced SQL language
syntax that is part of the ANSI SQL standards. In most cases student materials illustrate differences in vendor
implementations of the syntax. A variety of instructor examples and hands-on exercises provide an experiential element.
Students are advised to have completed SQL Level 2 or have equivalent experience before attending. Strong knowledge of
intermediate SQL constructs such as views, stored procedures, aggregations, advanced joins, data type conversion, DML, DDL
and similar topics are necessary to succeed in this course.
