This one day hands-on workshop is instructor led and covers the most important concepts and topics surrounding how to use Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services. Its focus is on the creation and basic use of Analysis Services data cubes and their associated elements including views, dimensions and measures. This course also introduces the student to a variety of basic but important supporting topics including Dimensional Data Design, the Unified Dimensional Model (UDM), Calculated Measures, Perspectives, MDX, KPI's and Actions. It also provides an overview of how various approaches to securing cube data can be implemented and used. This is an intermediate course with strong technical content. Students should be prepared to be challenged and should be willing to stay the entire eight hours in most cases.

Who Should Attend?

This workshop is best suited for people who have an interest in learning about dimensional data design and data cube creation. Typical students include Database Administrators, Business Intelligence Specialists, Data Warehouse Architects, Developers, Advanced Report Designers and Business Analysts.

Prerequisites & Recommended Preparatory Training

Students should have a firm understanding of database design principles and basic data warehousing and/or business intelligence concepts. SQL language, formula writing or programming skills are helpful. Basic knowledge of Excel is also helpful. This is a technical course and students should be prepared to engage in configuration and scripting activities. Recommended preparatory courses include:

- Business Intelligence Fundamentals
- Database Design & Data Modeling
- SQL Level 1
